Fall 2010 I was making a film about the Ossipee aquifer and needed good shots of the northern boundary watershed. A friend recommended I contact SLRR. They were most kind and offered me a pass for the fall foliage trip for photographers. It was a gorgeous day--scenery wonderful! I am planning to take my grandchildren on a ride this summer. The Silver Lake Railroad offers a delightful ride through the Chain of ponds area of Madison, NH aboard home-built passenger cars propelled by a Fairmont A4 track maintenance vehicle, (often referred to as a speeder). The ride starts at the Silver Lake depot and heads north through woods, marshes and ponds and stopping short of Boulder Road before heading back to Silver Lake (formerly the Boston & Maine Railroad's Madison Depot). Rides are by donation. The staff is easy going and the relaxed pace and the low cars make it a good trip for families with small children.
